This is a new and exciting locality of Morelia viridis. Kofiau is located in the Boo islands to the west of the Sorong peninsula of New Guinea and north of Misool island. Very little is known about this population. Many adults retain some to all of their juvenile yellow coloration. We currently maintain 2.2 adults, all of which are solid yellow animals with at most a handful of individual green scales. It does appear that this population is more tractable than many others. Every member of our group is docile, none have ever offered to bite. The Kofiau population ranks as one of the most distinct and may someday represent a separate taxon. As with all our green tree pythons, we strive to maintain groups of locality specific animals. We recognize the distinct and separate evolutionary paths that these populations represent and our goal is to preserve these in herpetoculture through locality specific breeding.
