Coastal carpets are the most neglected member of the spilota complex. Though they have been available for many years, very little has been done with regards to selective breeding of this sub-species. Though the recent appearance of a few genetic mutations has revived some interest in mcdowelli there is still much that can be accomplished through careful breeding of wild type specimens. We currently keep 3.3 Coastals including one Tiger morph animal. Tigers are a genetic striped appearance that appears to be inherited as a highly variable co-dominant mutation. Our primary goal with this taxon is not to focus on the available mutations but instead to breed for exceptional wild type coastals.
