Japanese Ratsnake (Elaphe climacophora)
This species inhabits most of the island of Japan and many of the smaller ones including Kunashiri in the Kuriles. Average length is from 120-160cm. This is a shy species that is active mostly in the morning hours. Albinos are found frequently in the vicinity of Iwakuni, Japan. A decline in their population, most likely due to genetic damage, led to a large breeding station started in 1967.
We are working with both normal and albino specimens.
