Trans Pecos Ratsnake (Elaphe subocularis)
This taxon is restricted to the Chihuahua desert area between the northern plateau and the Rio Grande and Pecos rivers. This species grows to a length of 110-130cm. One of North Americas most beautiful ratsnakes with its large protruding eyes and bold pattern. These are shy snakes that seldom attempt to bite. Trans Pecos ratsnakes prefer smaller prey items than other ratsnakes of similar size. Proper maintenance of this species includes a very dry cage with extremely limited humidity. We are working with both the normal and Blonde phase.
