West Papuan Carpet Python (Morelia ssp.)

Photos coming soon

The West Papuan carpet python in native to the western side of the island of New Guinea. This is a somewhat smaller carpet python, growing to 5-6 ft in length. These are great medium sized pythons with typically calm dispositions.

This form undergoes a dramatic ontogenetic color change. Hatchlings are clad in rust red hues which quickly fade. The reds are replaced with shades of black, cream, brown and even orange in some specimens. This is a python with a great deal of potential for selective breeding.

We are working with 1.1 pure West Papuan carpets that trace their ancestry back to some of the first animals produced by VPI.
